PONTIANAK – West Kalimantan Regional Secretary, dr. Harisson chaired the Regional Apparatus Forum for the West Kalimantan Provincial Border Management Agency (BPBD) virtually in the Data Analysis Room of the West Kalimantan Governor’s Office.
This Forum is the Preparation of Regional Apparatus Planning Documents and Regional Border Management Agency Forums throughout West Kalimantan Province which has the theme “Synchronization and Synergy of Border Area Development Activity Programs Toward Zero Advantaged Villages (BPPD)”.
As known, the border area of a country has strategic value in supporting the success of national development because the border area has an important role in state sovereignty. Thus, the development of border areas is a driving factor for improving the socio-economic welfare of the surrounding community.
“West Kalimantan is one of Indonesia area which has a border area that is directly opposite Sarawak, Malaysia. The national boundary line stretches for 927 km, crossing 40 villages in 14 subdistricts line 1 border,” dr. Harisson said.
Several regencies in West Kalimantan have state borders, that is Sambas, Bengkayang, Sanggau, Sintang, and Kapuas Hulu. Where along the borderline 50 footpaths connect 55 villages in the West Kalimantan border area with 32 villages in Sarawak, Malaysia.
“Most of the border areas of West Kalimantan are underdeveloped areas with limited social and economic facilities and infrastructure from their geographical location. For this reason, West Kalimantan Government is committed to accelerating the development of border areas following what has been stated in the 2018-2023 West Kalimantan Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD),” explained dr. Harisson.
West Kalimantan’s development vision is to realize the welfare of West Kalimantan people through accelerating infrastructure development and improving governance.
“Our hope to make a developed and prosperous border area as a reflection of Indonesia’s territory can be realized according to the stages that have been planned,” he concluded. (aws/CC/NM)
