MELAWI – The Governor of West Kalimantan, H. Sutarmidji, S.H., M.Hum., asked that the local government have a flood database application. The application is important to facilitate the government in registering people living in flood-affected areas.
Melawi regency was the worst affected area. National road access from Sintang Regency was cut off due to the flood.
In a working visit to Melawi Regency, the Governor reminded that the district government still should pay attention to the needs of flood victims. Although at the beginning of this week the flood has begun to recede, but the people has not been able to make ends meet because it is busy cleaning their homes.
“Even if the floodwaters recede, people will be busy to clean their homes. So that they cannot work yet and that’s what must be considered by the government,” said H. Sutarmidji, while attending a Friendly Night with the Regent of Melawi and the ranks, in pendopo of Regent Melawi, Sunday (11/21/2021).
He emphasized that flood management needs to prioritize good coordination between the national, provinces, and regencies /cities. The governor warned that the flood problem could not be solved alone.
“Hopefully, central government, local government, and also the private sectors can work in synergy,” he said.
Society data and mapping of flood-prone areas are indispensable in disaster mitigation. Therefore, the governor also asked the local government can build an application that can facilitate to collect the people data, containing the names, phone numbers, and addresses of people who living in flood-prone areas.
“Every local government in Kalbar must have a database application. It’s made to ease the local government to register people that are often affected by floods. It also facilitates the distribution of aid appropriately and smoothly,” governor said.
The Governor conducted a five-day working visit in flood-affected districts. He was accompanied by several heads of offices in the West Kalimantan Provincial Government, and General Director of Bank Kalbar, Rokidi, S.E., M.M.
